I really enjoyed these two posts on walking:

Why we walk, by Adam Gopnik:

Why people walk is a hard question that looks easy. Upright bipedalism seems such an obvious advantage from the viewpoint of those already upright that we rarely see its difficulty.

Why walking helps us think, by Ferris Jabr:

Walking organizes the world around us; writing organizes our thoughts.

Not sure why, but both of these put me in mind of Peter Gabriel’s Solsbury Hill, which we’re lucky enough to live 5 minutes from:
