Recently, Southampton CIL has been successful in securing a significant, £100,000 per year grant for 3 years from Hampshire County Council. This is to develop SCIL as a lead Disabled People’s User-Led Organisation in Hampshire.
Below, SCIL’s CEO – Ian Loynes – introduces this success, the work of the next 3 years, and some exciting associated job opportunities. Thanks to Ian for contributing this post.
Introduction and overall aims of this initiative:
SCIL has obtained funding for a three year initiative to develop itself as the lead ULO in Hampshire. This will build on Hampshire County Council and SCIL’s long partnership of working with ULOs, and will encourage the strategic involvement of Disabled People and Carers in Adult Social Care.
We will also build on our partnership relationships with other ULOs in Hampshire which already exist, for mutual benefit, and to ensure the success of the initiative.
This initiative has diversity and sustainability as fundamental core values. We will be working to develop a flourishing and diverse ULO sector in Hampshire.
This initiative will achieve the following five outcomes:
- SCIL will develop, equip, structure and rebrand itself to be identified as the Lead ULO in Hampshire, enabling HCC to realise the vision set out in their position paper on ULOs
- Provide strategic ULO policy advice to HCC and facilitate Disabled People and Carer co-produced policy advice to HCC
- Facilitate high quality involvement by Disabled People & Carers to improve service delivery, meet the needs of Disabled People and Carers and to improve the practice of co-production
- Co-produce a partnership approach with Hampshire County Council to supporting and developing ULOs in the future
- Support the development of new ULO’s that are sustainable and meet the Department of Health’s ULO Design Criteria. (We will also support existing ULOs to flourish in the difficult environment which currently exists).
Working with existing Disabled People’s and Carer-Led ULOs:
We have established a steering group to advise us on the best way to achieve these outcomes. This group includes the main ULOs which already exist in Hampshire.
Recruiting new staff for this project:
SCIL is currently advertising to recruit the following four staff roles, to enable us to deliver this three year initiative:
- Project Manager: 7.5hrs per week. Salary £5,410-£5,727
- Policy & Information Officer: 20 hrs per week. Salary £13,145-£14,014
- Empowerment Networking & ULO Development Officer: 37.5hrs per week. Salary £24,646-£26,276
- Administrative Assistant: 15hrs per week. Salary £6,422-£6,732
Due to the nature of SCIL, we wish to recruit Disabled People only into the first 3 roles.
