Those inflammatory arguments (again)

It was David Cameron who said that

We will be challenging lobby groups that are making inflammatory arguments. We will take their claims on. We will highlight when it is irresponsible to make statements like that.

I’m not sure George Osborne got that memo, if his speech today was anything to go by:

Now imagine what would follow: The market turmoil. The flight of investors. The dismay of business. The loss of confidence. The credit downgrade. The sharp rise in real interest rates. The extra debt interest. The lost jobs. The cancelled investment. The businesses destroyed. The recovery halted. The return of crippling economic instability. Britain back on the brink.

I shall expect a rebuke of the Chancellor from the Prime Minister forthwith.
