Coalition government immigration policy problems

I’ve noted before the problems with the Tory position on immigration:

[D]oes the Tory cap on immigration admit the possibility that they’ll want Britain to leave the EU, on the grounds of immigration?

The Financial Times blog also notes an issue the coalition government will have arising from its position on immigration, this time affecting the economy:

Cameron’s immigration cap, if successful, will hold-back economic growth.
